Goosky S2: review of the 3D micro flybarless RC helicopter
Complete review of the Goosky S2, a 3D micro flybarless RC helicopter with dual direct-drive brushless motors and a 440 mm rotor. Real specifications, build quality, flight behavior, pros, cons, and final verdict out of ten to help you decide if it's the right model for you.
In the world of RC helicopters for aerobatic flight, the Goosky S2 quickly carved out a niche of enthusiasts thanks to a formula as simple as it is effective: compact dimensions, refined mechanics, and an explicitly 3D soul. With a main rotor of approximately 440 mm, this micro flybarless model falls into a category that appeals both to those who want to take their first steps in aerobatic flight and to experienced pilots looking for a training machine to always carry with them. In this review, we analyze it in detail, from technical specifications to actual flight behavior, to understand if it truly deserves the attention it receives.
The Goosky S2 is available in multiple configurations: the RTF (Ready To Fly) version, complete with a Goosky T8 radio and ready to fly; the BNF (Bind-N-Fly), without a transmitter for those who already have a compatible radio; and the Kit, designed for those who love to assemble everything from scratch. There are also the more powerful S2 Max and S2 Ultra variants, which raise the bar in terms of performance and robustness.

Mechanics and Build Quality
The first thing that strikes you when taking the Goosky S2 out of the box is the build quality. For a model in this price range, the level of finish is surprising: rigid frame, quality screws, and tight mechanical tolerances. The heart of the project is the dual direct-drive brushless motor solution, where the motor's rotor directly drives the main shaft without intermediate gears. This choice reduces friction, eliminates the noise and wear typical of belt or gear transmissions, and contributes to particularly precise tail control, as the tail also has its dedicated motor.
The swashplate control system rests on a monobloc CNC aluminum support, which stiffens the assembly and reduces play. Goosky has also adopted a tune-free linkage design, which greatly simplifies assembly and maintenance: there's no need to waste time adjusting the length of the rods, reducing the risk of errors for beginners. The canopy is a split type, divided into two parts, which makes battery replacement quick and hassle-free, a detail much appreciated during continuous flight.

In Flight
It's in flight that the Goosky S2 shows its true character. The GTS flybarless system is the brain of the machine and does an excellent job of keeping the helicopter stable, but above all, it is fully adjustable via a Bluetooth app. By connecting with a smartphone, you can modify gains, expo, pitch and throttle curves, adapting the model's behavior to your style and skill level. This means that the same helicopter can be docile and predictable for a beginner and, after a few minutes of setup, become aggressive and reactive for a 3D pilot.
In aerobatic flight, the Goosky S2 performs like a true little champion: flips, rolls, autorotations, inverted flight, and funnels come out clean, and the helicopter responds immediately to commands. The direct-drive provides a feeling of ready and linear power, while tail hold is solid even in the most demanding maneuvers. For its size, the flight precision is truly remarkable and challenges much more expensive models.
The downside comes when the wind blows. Being a micro helicopter with a low weight, the Goosky S2 is sensitive to gusts: on windy days, it tends to be pushed around and requires more attention and corrections. This is not a defect of the model itself, but an inevitable physical characteristic of the category. Flying in calm wind conditions, or in sufficiently large indoor spaces, allows you to fully enjoy its potential.

Pros
- Build quality superior to the average for its price range
- Dual direct-drive motor silent, efficient, and with solid tail hold
- Precise and reactive 3D flight, like a true aerobatic helicopter
- GTS flybarless adjustable via app: docile or aggressive as desired
- Tune-free design and split canopy: simple assembly and maintenance
- Available in RTF, BNF, and Kit, plus Max and Ultra variants
- Compact dimensions: portable and suitable for smaller spaces
Cons
- Short flight time: 8-10 minutes per charge requires multiple spare batteries
- Wind sensitivity typical of lightweight micro models
- The RTF version with T8 radio is entry-level: experienced pilots will prefer the BNF with a more comprehensive radio
- Spare parts, though available, may require longer procurement times in Italy
Who is it suitable for
The Goosky S2 is an excellent choice for various profiles. It's perfect for the intermediate pilot who wants to take their first steps in 3D flight without investing significant amounts, thanks to the ability to soften its behavior via the app. It's equally valid for the experienced pilot looking for a compact training machine, to pull out for a quick session when there's no time or space for a larger helicopter. However, we do not recommend it for the absolute beginner who has never flown with collective pitch: a 3D helicopter, however adjustable, remains a demanding machine, and it's advisable to gain experience first on a simulator or a fixed-pitch model.
Verdict
The Goosky S2 is one of those products that raise the bar in their category. It offers a build quality and flight enjoyment that, until recently, were unthinkable at this price. The dual-motor direct-drive is an elegant and reliable solution, the GTS flybarless is versatile, and 3D flight is precise and fun. The limitations exist — reduced flight time and wind sensitivity — but they are the price to pay for a pocket-sized aerobatic model, and they do not detract from the overall judgment. If you are looking for a micro RC helicopter to learn with or to stay in practice, the Goosky S2 is among the best options available.
